Hello munchkins!
How is everyone doing? This heat is seriously making me think about fashion. Every day I look at my closet and instantly go for the most airy, light pieces to wear. Strangely, a lot of kurtas. And honestly, I now fully understand why they’re such a staple in India - timeless, breathable, and effortlessly stylish.
Of course, this got me spiraling down the rabbit hole of thinking about personal style (as always, lol).
First things first: no personal style is wrong.
I’ll say it again - no personal style is wrong. People should wear what truly makes them feel good. If something brings you joy, wear it. You do you.
To give you some context - I’m an architect who goes to the office every day and lives in a very hot climate. I like to dress conservatively at work but still stay put-together at all times. I’d describe my style as a mix of Indian and Western, with an occasional experimental twist. I love good basics and clothes that make me feel like I’m wearing the outfit, not the other way around.
In a world flooded with advertisements and trends - both online and offline - personal style can feel like it’s fading. Everything starts to look the same, which made me reflect on all the ways personal style actually shows up in our lives... and why it’s so important.
Here are a few ways personal style reflects in everyday life:
1. Your Communication Style
This might be a random observation - but my introverted sister has a soft, understated style, while mine is bolder and edgier. I’m an extrovert. It really made me realize how closely style and self-expression are connected.
2. Your Lifestyle Choices
Your style can subtly influence the kind of places you go and the experiences you seek. For instance, I gravitate toward art galleries, museums, and anything creative. My sister, being more introverted and tech-inclined, prefers different environments. Our styles reflect that.
3. Your Environment
How you style your space often mirrors how you style yourself. Minimal, artsy, cozy, vintage - it all ties together. I’m currently working on a project where a client struggles to choose tiles and a color palette, and it made me realize: discovering your personal style can make even those decisions easier and more intuitive.
4. Your Career
Would you hire a designer who doesn’t seem put-together or lacks a sense of style? Personally, I wouldn’t. Style often signals intentionality and attention to detail. They say, “Dress for the job you want,” and I completely stand by it. Whether you’re there yet or not, personal style can amplify your manifestation energy.
5. Your Values and Beliefs
If you’ve been following me, you know I constantly reevaluate my relationship with animal products in fashion, fast fashion, and sustainability. Your personal style reflects your values. For example, my sister prioritizes comfort, while I’m more experimental and trend-curious. Even the art you buy—whether it’s a meaningful painting or a poster of your favorite athlete - says something about what you believe in.
6. Your Energy
Your style is like your energy signature. Are you playful? Elegant? Edgy? Calm? People can feel that energy just by being around you - and it often comes through in how you present yourself.
For some people, personal style may not feel that important - and that’s totally valid. Not everything in life is about style. But whether we notice it or not, it’s always shaping us in subtle ways.
So if there’s one thing I’d like you to take away, it’s this: be a little more conscious the next time you choose your clothes, your bedsheets, or even your notebook. Because that small rose print, that soft fabric, that color you love - can bring you a moment of joy every time you see it.
It might still be a regular object. It might still serve a function. But when it resonates with you, it becomes yours.
Your personal style is sacred. It’s more than clothes.
It can evolve endlessly (like mine) or stay completely still if that makes you happy. You set the rules.
The goal is to surround yourself with things that are consciously chosen - not just stuff that ads convinced you to buy.
Stay curious, babies. Life is all about choices, I guess. ✨
